More than 800 people who are medically fit to go home have been stuck in hospital beds this week in Greater Manchester, as they struggle to get care home placements or for social care packages that would allow them to be discharged.

Delays in sending hundreds of people across Greater Manchester who are medically fit to go home have been regular battles for hospitals over the last three years.

This is because social care is massively overstretched, numerous NHS figures say, meaning patients who might need looking after in the community will have no support.
