Tributes have been paid to a doctor who looked after patients in Stockport for over four decades. Dr Sikander Malik worked at four GP practices and two hospitals during his 43 years spent working in the borough.

Surrounded by his loved ones, he died in hospital of pneumonia last October age 83 after suffering a fall and a bleed on the brain the previous month.

Members of his family have now paid heartwarming tributes to the much-loved dad-of-three and grandfather, who they have said was a 'born healer' and whose 'stethoscope remained in his jacket pocket till his last days.' After being educated in his birthplace, including at the Government Medical College in Nagpur, he drove from India to the UK with his brother to start a new life in 1971, with the epic road journey taking them 15 days.
