A high speed train has been used to ferry critically ill patients across France to free up intensive care beds. As the country continues to treat tens of thousands of Covid-19 patients, French medical authorities have commandeered TGV trains to transport the critically ill to less busy hospitals.
The rail network is best known for the incredibly high speeds its trains hit as they surge through the French countryside. On Friday, April 10 the drivers were ordered to keep to a slower pace when 45 coronavirus patients were loaded on board.
Instead of the usual bustling stations at Paris' Austerlitz station, the two trains were met by a long line of ambulances, stretchers and medical staff.
