Joanna Scanlan will play Ma Larkin in ITV’s reboot of The Darling Buds of May. The actress, best known for playing Whitehall press officer Terri Coverley in The Thick of It and DI Viv Deering in No Offence, follows in the footsteps of Pam Ferris, who starred in the 1990s original.
She will appear alongside Bradley Walsh as husband Pop Larkin. This role was previously swept up and played by David Jason. It is not yet known who will play eldest daughter Mariette, the role that set Catherine Zeta-Jones on her path to super-stardom.
Joanna will feel right at home in the family saga based on the novels by HE Bates which is set in the Kent countryside. The star has told of growing up in north Wales, “with no cars, just fields”, and the effect
