Liverpool FC have apologised as they announced they would now not be asking the taxpayer to help pay the wages of some of their staff.
On Saturday, the Premier League leaders announced they would follow Newcastle, Tottenham, Bournemouth and Norwich in placing some of their non-playing staff on furlough following the shutdown of football in the country.
However the club, who in February announced pre-tax profits of £42million for 2018-19, have been heavily criticised for their intention to use to the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme, through which the government have agreed to meet 80 percent of the wages of staff unable to work due to the crisis.
