The Health Secretary today refused to apologise to NHS staff stuck without vital gowns and masks - despite admitting orders are taking more than two days to come through.
Speaking at Downing Street's daily press conference, Matt Hancock said there was "always more to be done" to get personal protective equipment (PPE) but there were now "record amounts in the system." He said the average time to deal with PPE queries has come down from six days after the government set up a new plan - but still sits at two and a half days.
And he refused an opportunity to apologise for missing equipment that has left desperate workers choosing between caring for the sick and putting themselves at risk.
