Penneys has issued an urgent recall of a popular item due to a serious health risk, urging customers to cease use right away.The high street giant is pulling its Primark DTR Stitch SL 4pk Scented Highlighters off the shelves due to dangerous levels of restricted phthalates in the highlighter lids.

Exposure to these chemicals can pose serious health risks, particularly to children, as they may potentially damage the reproductive system.

In an alert issued today, the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) said: "Primark Limited (T/A Penneys) is carrying out a recall of Primark DTR Stitch SL 4pk Scented Highlighters.The risk presented by the product is chemical due to exposure to restricted phthalates over permitted limits in the tip of the lid.

Exposure to phthalates can harm children’s health by potentially damaging their reproductive system. " The affected product has been purchased by around 3,356 customers between May 2024 and January 2025.
