Two people are in hospital after a prison van smashed into a Caffè Nero in the centre of Manchester. The vehicle crashed into the coffeeshop on Portland Street just before 9am on Tuesday morning.
Police say the driver of the van suffered a "medical episode" leading to the collision. Dramatic photos show the footpath strewn with shattered glass and the front bumper of the white GEOAmey van crumpled up, with the license plate hanging loose.
A section of the street has been closed while emergency services remain outside the cafe with a police cordon in place. Bus services are currently being diverted away from the scene.
