More than 2.4million people have joined universal credit since March, with the total number of claimants rocketing in the initial months following the coronavirus outbreak.
It's put huge strain on our finances, and with an impending recession, the uncertainty is set to continue until at least the end of the year.
However, many claimants are unaware that joining universal credit could also give them access to other state support, such as free school meals and a savings account for a 50% cash boost.
While putting money away for a rainy day may feel impossible right now, those who start a fund on universal credit could get a bonus when things settle later in the year.
