New calls to bring back £150 disability cost of living payments for 6m people this year

More than 60,760 people have signed an online petition calling for the £150 disability cost of living payment to be reinstated and the amount of financial support reviewed.

Petition creator Tom Howard handed the petition over to 10 Downing Street on February 3, hopeful that Secretary of State for Work and Pensions Mel Stride and the Chancellor Jeremy Hunt will consider the proposal and introduce further support at the Spring Budget on March 6.

Some 6.4 million people on disability benefits received the £150 payment at the end of June/start of July last year. However, the campaigner argues that more help is needed this year to help disabled people and those with long-term health conditions keep up with the ongoing cost of living crisis - energy bills and food prices in particular.

Tom explained: “We urge the Government to acknowledge the plight of disabled people and reinstate the disability cost of living payment.
