The National Public Health Emergency Team is to consider bringing in new measures for nursing homes when it meets today. New data on Covid-19 from the Health Protection Surveillance Centre has shown that there are 22 clusters in nursing homes, and the sector has reported limited availability of personal protective equipment as well as problems securing oxygen for residents falling ill.
Across the country there are 25,000 older people being cared for in nursing homes. The NPHET is also expected to give further consideration to the issue of travel into the country and on the island of Ireland.
