The number of people who have died from coronavirus has increased by 494 to 33,186 people across all settings, according to the Department of Health and Social Care.
It was considerably lower (by 133 deaths) than Tuesday's tragic figure of 627 new deaths, an indication that the death rate is on a downward trajectory as lockdown continues.
In a tweet, the Department of Health said as of 9am on Wednesday, there have been 2,094,209 tests carried out, with 87,063 taking place yesterday.
A total of 1,522,258 people have been tested and of these, 229,705 have tested positive.positive. As of 5pm on 12 May, of those tested positive for coronavirus, across all settings, 33,186 have sadly died.
