Nursing homes site of 40% of US COVID-19 deaths

A new analysis in USA Today suggests up to 40% of US deaths from COVID-19 have taken place in nursing homes or long-term care facilities, a staggering statistic that represents 40,600 residents.

More than 2.4 million Americans live in long-term care facilities.That means roughly 450 residents of these facilities have died each day from COVID-19 since March.

But the newspaper said this is likely an undercount, as state reporting is inconsistent.
