Piers Stefan Pughe-Morgan (born 30 March 1965) is an English broadcaster, journalist, writer, and television personality. He is currently a co-presenter of the ITV Breakfast programme Good Morning Britain from Monday to Wednesday each week. Morgan began his career in Fleet Street as a writer and editor for several tabloid papers, including The Sun, News of the World, and the Daily Mirror. In 1994, aged 29, he was appointed editor of the News of the World by Rupert Murdoch, which made him the youngest editor of a British national newspaper in more than half a century.

Piers Morgan, 56, has spoken out in view of his 7.2 million Twitter followers in response to the news that journalist Maria Mercader has died of the coronavirus aged 54.

Maria, who was a CBS News producer and talent executive, who also battled cancer, died in New York on Sunday.Piers reacted after Maria’s colleague Susan Zirinsky posted a heartfelt tribute dedicated to the late journalist in view of her 19,000 Twitter followers yesterday.She wrote alongside a photo of the duo: “It is with profound sadness that I share with you the loss of a dear member of our CBS News family.  “Maria Mercader, who embodied all of a journalist’s vital traits, foremost the fearlessness she showed battling cancer and now Covid19.
