UCD School of Medicine's Dr Paddy Mallon has said we need to look at all the gains that have been made over the last few weeks through social restrictions and protecting our borders.
Dr Mallon said that we are at a critical time in the evolution of the coronavirus epidemic and must plan ahead. Once we get over the hump of these infections, he said, the next key step will be to try to avoid new infections entering the country.
Dr Mallon said the UK and the US, two common travel areas, "are in a very, very different stage to where we are."
