Student nurses who were hired to work on the Covid-19 frontline have hit out after being told their paid placements would largely come to an end next month.
They took to Facebook and Twitter after being e-mailed to say the placements - which are usually unpaid, but were paid this year due to coronavirus - were due to end on July 31.
Health chiefs insisted the paid arrangements were always going to end at some point, and some third-year nurses would be paid for longer.
But some nurses claimed their work was ending earlier than expected - effectively cutting their contract short. Some also feared it would leave them in financial peril, because they had pinned their hopes on getting paid work through the summer.
