North Korean officials are cracking down on sarcasm after supreme leader Kim Jong-un failed to find a turn-of-phrase funny. The phrase that caused all the fuss was used in the South Korean drama “Crash Landing on You” and the purge of sarcasm came swiftly afterwards with Pyongyang wanting to root out influence from its capitalist neighbour.
When translated into English, the phrase said something similar to “who died and made you general?” or “You think you’re the general or something?”.
A source told Radio Free Asia (RFA): “Law enforcement authorities have launched an investigation because some of the South Korean-style speech is being used to criticise the highest dignity.” It is believed the phrase has become a common part of everyday
