Scots fisherman 'washed off rocks' into sea airlifted to hospital
A Scots lifeboat crew rescued a man who was 'washed off rocks' into the sea while fishing. Montrose RNLI scrambled two boats on Wednesday, November 20, after being alerted by a local man to the 58-year-old man having fallen into the sea.After arriving at the scene just south of the village of Usan, near Lunan Bay, they discovered the casualty had made it back onto the rocks.
Police and the local coastguard had also joined the rescue effort by this stage.The man, who suffered a suspected broken ankle, was put onto a stretcher and helped towards a waiting Air Ambulance.
He was airlifted to hospital but no more information is available on his condition at this stage.A spokepserson for Montrose RNLI said: "Both boats were requested to launch by HM Coastguard this afternoon to reports of a 58 year old male casualty who had been washed off rocks while fishing just south of Usan."The casualty, with a suspected broken ankle, made it ashore to rocks.
A local man had dialled 999 and asked for the Coastguard when he saw the incident. Both boats quickly made it to scene, where members of Montrose Coastguard, Scottish Ambulance, Air Ambulance and Police Scotland were also in attendance."As the rocks where the casualty was located were challenging to access, two members of our ILB crew were put ashore and assisted with extracting the casualty on a stretcher to the helicopter location and into the care of Air Ambulance personnel, with the casualty then airlifted to hospital.
