Scotland’s former chief medical officer warned against easing lockdown before the spread of Covid-19 falls further. Sir Harry Burns said the rate of transmission is still too high.

He feared the rate - known as the “R number” - could go up if restrictions are eased before a proper test, trace and isolate system is in place.
