Lucky indeed: Dog left paralyzed after being hit by train in Philadelphia finds forever home

PHILADELPHIA - A dog found abandoned and partially paralyzed after being found on SEPTA tracks in Philadelphia has finally found a forever home. The nonprofit organization Philly Rescue Angles made a public cry for help after the dog was found in December. "Someone has literally dumped this poor dog on the train tracks, he has been laying here for two days," the organization said. "He has literally been laying his body down and the train has been going over him." Lucky's spinal cord injury left him unable to use his back legs and an influx of donations helped the organization fund surgery and rehabilitation. RELATED COVERAGEAfter surgery, Lucky began recovery at a foster home as applications to adopt him piled up. Months later, one of the women who helped save his life welcomed him into her family. According to Philly Rescue Angels, the organization received hundreds of applications to adopt him when he was first posted, but once his spinal cord injury was revealed, many people backed out. "This was a long process, but we know Lucky was ghosted by these people for a reason, because now he is where he belongs," the group said on Instagram. The organization says it will continue to financially support Lucky for the rest of his life as he needs monthly medical care, prescriptions and items to help his mobility. A wishlist has been created to help his new family.

Philadelphia police hope revamped recruitment process will help address staffing issues

PHILADELPHIA - The Philadelphia Police Department hopes to hire hundreds of new officers over the next year with the help of a revamped recruitment process. Commanding Officer of the Recruitment and Background Investigation Unit Captain John Walker called the need for more officers "dire" and touted the upward mobility the department offers. "We are in dire need right now we want to hire over 1,000 people over the next few years, and we want to hire diverse groups of people from all over," Walker told FOX 29's Kelly Rule. There are immediate areas where the city can improve, especially in neighborhoods that deal with less crime and some districts that offer a higher starting salary. "If you want to have daily interaction and a lot of opportunity, the chance of promotion in a big city where you have 1 year in rank and you can promote up is unheard of in smaller departments," Walker said.The department's desperate need to find more officers isn't unique to only Philadelphia, cities across the country are also finding their police forces severely depleted. The biggest challenge seems to be trying to convince people to become police officers amid rampant gun violence and issues with community relations. In Philadelphia, the department is offering full benefits and a salary of almost $64k after six months in the academy.

80th American Red Cross Month kicks off onboard Battleship New Jersey

Robots strut their stuff at Paris Fashion Week

PARIS - Robots took the runway last week during Coperni’s Fashion Week show in Paris on Friday. Boston Dynamics said its robots accompanied the models during the show. According to Storyful, the show was a reinterpretation of Jean de la Fontaine’s "The Wolf and the Lamb," using Boston Dynamics’s robot Spot.The show presented Coperni’s vision that "there is neither a dominant nor a dominated, but that mankind and machine live in harmony."RELATED: Man credited with inventing cellphone sees dark side, but also hope in new techLocal news reports said having a robot take part in the show was history "in which robots, rather than models, were the star turn."Footage released by Storyful showed Spot robots and models both engaging with each other during the show.
