The coronavirus peak in the north west is not now expected until the first week in May, the Manchester Evening News understands.
Experts believe the height of the pandemic here will see less of a sharp spike than originally predicted, but will last for slightly longer.
It is understood original modelling for the region had predicted around 2,200 people across the north west would need ventilator care at the outbreak’s peak under the 'worst case' scenario.
That peak had been forecast for this week, in line with national reports that had suggested Easter could mark the beginning of highest point.
