The government has succeeded in reaching its target of 100,000 coronavirus tests a day by the end of April. Speaking at today's daily press briefing, health secretary Matt Hancock gave an update on the number of tests carried out in the UK yesterday, the last day he had to hit his target before the end of the month.
He said a total of 122,347 tests had been carried out on April 30 - more than 22,000 morethan the government was aiming for.
Announcing the figures, Mr Hancock said: "This unprecedented expansion of British testing capacity is an incredible achievement. "The testing capacity will help every single person in the country.
