The UK reported a further 439 deaths from the coronavirus, a second day of decline following a daily high of 708 reported on Saturday, according to figures from the Department of Health and Social Care.
The figures show an additional 3,802 positive cases of coronavirus, crossing the 50,000 threshold in total. Overall data excludes Northern Ireland. "As of 5pm on 5 April, of those hospitalised in the UK who tested positive for coronavirus 5,373 have died," the health ministry said in a tweet.
Some 208,837 people have been tested for the disease in the UK, with 13,069 tests conducted on April 5. The UK hopes to accelerate testing to 100,000 a day by the end of April.
