British Prime Minister Boris Johnson "almost took one for the team" and will need a period of rest as he begins to recover from Covid-19, his father has said.
Stanley Johnson said the whole family is "amazingly grateful" for the efforts of the NHS and for the huge outpouring of support for his son.
And he played down suggestions that Mr Johnson will quickly return to work at Number 10, saying he "has to take time". Mr Johnson father's comments are likely to be taken as a further indication that Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab will continue to deputise for the Prime Minister in the coming days.
