Alexander Boris de Pfeffel Johnson Hon FRIBA  (born 19 June 1964) is a British politician, writer, and former journalist serving as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom and Leader of the Conservative Party since 2019. He was Foreign Secretary from 2016 to 2018 and Mayor of London from 2008 to 2016. Johnson was Member of Parliament for Henley from 2001 to 2008 and has been MP for Uxbridge and South Ruislip since 2015. Ideologically, Johnson identifies as a one-nation conservative.

BREAKING UK coronavirus death toll surges to 8,786 after another 924 deaths confirmed

A further 924 people have died in the UK from coronavirus, bringing the total death toll from 7,862 to 8,786. Another 866 lost their lives in England, as the total number of deaths rises to 8,114 from 7,246.

Scotland saw a further 48 deaths on Friday, taking the country's death toll to 495. Northern Ireland recorded another 10 coronavirus deaths, bringing the total to 92.

Wales' Ireland's death toll figures are yet to be released but will bring the figures higher. It comes as Prime Minister Boris Johnson leaves intensive care after being hospitalised on Sunday from coronavirus.

The army and police will be patrolling beaches in parts of the country this weekend to stop people from breaking lockdown rules.
