PHILADELPHIA - A mother and daughter are injured after police say they were shot inside a Holmesburg pizza shop Wednesday night. Just before 9 p.m., police responded to Mayfair Pizza, located on the 7400 block of Frankford Avenue, for reports of a shooting. Police say gunfire erupted after an attempted robbery inside the pizza shop. Investigators say 19-year-old Kaleb Bridges walked into the family-owned and operated pizza shop and asked for money while pointing a gun at the employees. MORE HEADLINES Authorities say the suspect fired three shots inside the store, hitting a 65-year-old woman in the stomach and her 34-year-old daughter in the shoulder. Police told FOX 29's Shawnette Wilson that the husband and father of the victims, along with employees and customers inside the store, jumped on top of the gunman and subdued him until police arrived. The victims were rushed to Jefferson Torresdale Hospital where authorities say they were placed in stable condition.Bridges was taken into custody and a weapon was recovered, according to police. He was later charged with aggravated assault, VUFA and related charges.

PHILADELPHIA - The Philadelphia Police Department hopes to hire hundreds of new officers over the next year with the help of a revamped recruitment process. Commanding Officer of the Recruitment and Background Investigation Unit Captain John Walker called the need for more officers "dire" and touted the upward mobility the department offers. "We are in dire need right now we want to hire over 1,000 people over the next few years, and we want to hire diverse groups of people from all over," Walker told FOX 29's Kelly Rule. There are immediate areas where the city can improve, especially in neighborhoods that deal with less crime and some districts that offer a higher starting salary. "If you want to have daily interaction and a lot of opportunity, the chance of promotion in a big city where you have 1 year in rank and you can promote up is unheard of in smaller departments," Walker said.The department's desperate need to find more officers isn't unique to only Philadelphia, cities across the country are also finding their police forces severely depleted. The biggest challenge seems to be trying to convince people to become police officers amid rampant gun violence and issues with community relations. In Philadelphia, the department is offering full benefits and a salary of almost $64k after six months in the academy.

PHILADELPHIA - Philadelphia police are seeking three more suspects after they arrested one for a carjacking that they say ended in a police pursuit. On Saturday, around 9 p.m., officers from the 6th district responded to the 1200 block of Poplar Street for a carjacking. When responding officers arrived at the scene, they spoke with the victim about the stolen car information and the description for the suspects. When one of the officers went over the radio to inform the district of the car details, another officer observed the stolen car traveling southbound on Broad Street. Authorities say the officer activated his lights and sirens in an attempt to stop the stolen car when the offenders took off at a high rate of speed. MORE HEADLINES The pursuit ended at 700 Chester Pike in Prospect Park after the offenders crashed into a fence, according to police. After the crash, police say four offenders fled from the car, but one suspect was apprehended after a brief foot pursuit.

PHILADELPHIA - A 71-year-old man is in stable condition after police say he fought back against two suspects during a robbery attempt.The incident happened late Thursday night on the 2400 block of North 10th Street in North Philadelphia. The victim told police was walking home from a takeout restaurant when two suspects emerged from an alley and attempted to rob him.According to police, the victim pulled out a revolver and exchanged gunfire with the suspects. COLOMBO (News 1st); China says it will work with relevant countries and international financial institutions to jointly play a positive role in helping Sri Lanka navigate its current situation, ease its debt burden and achieve sustainable development.Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Mao Ning on Tuesday (28) said the Export-Import Bank of China provided a financing support document to the Ministry of Finance, Economic Stabilization and National Policies of Sri Lanka, saying the Bank is going to provide an extension on the debt service due in 2022 and 2023 to help relieve Sri Lanka’s short-term debt repayment pressure. "The Bank also noted that it will support Sri Lanka in its loan application to the IMF and continuously call on commercial creditors (including the International Sovereign Bondholders) to provide debt treatment in an equally comparable manner, and encourage multilateral creditors to do their utmost to make corresponding contributions," she added."What China did is first based on China’s existing policy and position on debt issue. At the same time, as a special arrangement, it also reflects the traditional friendship between China and Sri Lanka.
