When will cinemas reopen in the UK? Plans for Odeon, Vue, Cineworld and Showcase

Yesterday, May 29, Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced new lockdown measures that would start from Monday, June 1. This includes the phased reopening of schools, car showrooms and outdoor markets.

Non-essential retail business such as clothes and shoe shops will be allowed to open from June 15. But he didn’t mention anything about other businesses, such as cinemas and theatres.

In the UK cinemas have been closed since the middle of March due to the coronavirus lockdown. But on May 11 the government published guidance which details when they will be able to open.

Cinemas are included in step three of the plan to ease lockdown restrictions. The government confirmed that the easiest they will be able to open is July 4.
