19 heroic NHS workers dead in coronavirus outbreak so far, government confirms

Nineteen NHS workers have died so far in Britain’s fight against the coronavirus, the government has confirmed. Health Secretary Matt Hancock told BBC Breakfast on Saturday that the frontline workers had “put themselves on the front line” in a bid to save lives.

He said the government are still working to establish whether they “caught coronavirus in the line of duty while at work” or whether “like so many other people, caught it in the rest of their lives.” Mr Hancock also confirmed a disproportionate amount of people from minority ethnic backgrounds had died from Covid-19 and that it is a "testament to the fact that people who have come from all over the world have come and given their lives to work in the NHS."
