Narendra Damodardas Modi (born 17 September 1950) is an Indian politician serving as the 14th and current Prime Minister of India since 2014. He was the Chief Minister of Gujarat from 2001 to 2014 and is the Member of Parliament for Varanasi. Modi is a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), a Hindu nationalist volunteer organisation. He is the first prime minister outside of the Indian National Congress to win two consecutive terms with a full majority and the second to complete five years in office after Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
As covid-19 cases rise, Centre releases emergency funds for states
NEW DELHI : As states step up containment, quarantine and treatment for covid-19, in the wake of rising cases, the Union home ministry on Friday sanctioned the release of Rs11,092 crores to states.
With the rising number of cases and the corresponding shortage of testing and quarantine facilities, the Centre has now stepped up measures to expedite treatment and containment across the country, whilst also instructing states to iron out backlogs in the supply-chain links.
While the Centre had set up the state disaster risk management fund to provide financial and infrastructure aid to states with the ongoing spread of the pandemic, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday had given the go-ahead to the ministry to proceed with the disbursal
