Boris Johnson is “in good spirits” despite his extended coronavirus self-isolation, Health Secretary Matt Hancock said. The Prime Minister, 55, was said to have been “hit like a sledgehammer” by the virus.

Experts warn that a patient suffering a temperature for eight days could be at risk of pneumonia. His pregnant fiancee Carrie Symonds, 32, has also been laid up with symptoms.

She tweeted: “I've spent the past week in bed with the main symptoms of Coronavirus. I haven’t needed to be tested and, after seven days of rest, I feel stronger and I’m on the mend.” A source told the Mail on Sunday the PM has “been coughing and spluttering his way through conference calls”.
