Schools 'could go back by May half-term' as ministers consider lifting lockdown

Primary schools could return as soon as May 11 as Government ministers ponder how to get the country up-and-running again following the coronavirus lockdown, it has been reported.

A number of ministers are said to want younger pupils to head back to school as they fear lockdown restrictions cannot feasibly be relaxed until they do, The Telegraph reports.

The country-wide lockdown, which was announced by Prime Minister Boris Johnson on March 23, is expected to be extended for three more weeks by the Government on Thursday, taking the possible end date to May 7.
