A teenage boy was arrested today for breaking lockdown rules during the coronavirus pandemic. Ste Richardson, a senior section officer for West Yorkshire Police said he approached the 13-year-old under new powers recently introduced by the Government.
The officer, who is based in Leeds, said the boy refused to give him any details and he had “no choice” but to arrest him, reports Leeds Live.
The new measures were introduced on Thursday and allow police to use powers to enforce staying at home and avoiding non-essential travel.
Officers can now issue on-the-spot £60 fines, with the amount doubling for each repeat offence. Magistrates can then impose unlimited cash penalties on those who fail to pay.
