Beloved British actress, presenter and singer Julie Stevens has sadly passed away after a three-year health battle.The star, known for her roles in the classic espionage television series The Avengers and Carry On films, died at the age of 87.
It was revealed that she had been battling Parkinson's disease for the past three years. Julie became a cherished figure on children's TV shows throughout the Sixties and Seventies, having played Venus Smith in six episodes of The Avengers from 1962 until 1963.
She also portrayed Gloria in the 1964 film Carry On Cleo and continued to grace our screens until the early 2000s. Her death was announced by her daughter, Rachel, with a friend then sharing the news via the Legends of Kids TV social media page.
The public announcement read: "Julie Stevens. I received this from her daughter Rachel. It's with great sadness I let you know that Julie died on Thursday, after a difficult 3 years with Parkinson's.Thankfully it was very peaceful at the end." The star's family told The Sun that the last few years had been "difficult" following her diagnosis, but added: "[Julie] faced it as she did all challenges, with good humour and great charm. [She] will be remembered for her joyful spirit, her ability to make every child feel seen, and her lasting legacy in the world of children's television", reports the Mirror.
