NEW DELHI: It required an intervention from National Security Advisor Ajit Doval on 28 March to get the leaders of the south Delhi-based mosque, Nizamuddin Markaz, to agree to vacate the premises, now considered a hotspot of covid-19.
Tabligh-e-Jamaat's Markaz in Delhi's Nizamuddin had as many as 1,700 delegates from world over in attendance who had stayed put on the premises after Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced a 21-day lockdown last week to contain the spread of the disease, defying social distancing norms.
Area sub-divisional magistrate and the police had sent multiple requests to Markaz officials asking them to vacate but to no avail.
