England's bid for 2030 World Cup takes back seat on back of coronavirus pandemic

England and Ireland remain keen to host the 2030 World Cup but the joint bid has been put on hold for now amid the coronavirus crisis.

With football still suspended across Europe due to the spread of COVID-19, bigger priorities are being dealt with then the tournament in 10 years’ time.

Qatar will controversially host the World Cup next in 2022, with the competition set to take place in the winter season, which will disrupt club campaigns throughout Europe.

The 2026 tournament, meanwhile, has joint hosts in the form of the US, Canada and Mexico. The United 2026 bid will see the World Cup played in three different countries for the first time.
