Former Tottenham and Leicester striker Gary Lineker has donated £140,000 as part of a campaign to raise £1,000,000 for the British Red Cross emergency response to coronavirus.
Lineker announced the fundraiser on Twitter, writing: "Decided to donate a couple of months’ salary to @BritishRedCross who are doing vital work for those most vulnerable during the Coronavirus crisis. "Feel incredibly fortunate to be able to do this.
If you’d like to join in, it’d be greatly appreciated." The Match of the Day presenter has been in self-isolation after his eldest son, George, displayed symptoms of the virus, including losing his sense of taste and smell.
