Health and safety watchdogs have warned that plans to build luxury homes next to the site of a warehouse containing thousands of litres of whisky will be a fire risk.Developers want to build eight flats on the site of the former Dumbuck House Hotel in Dumbarton which was left gutted after arson attacks in June and July. But the Health and Safety Executive has warned against the proposed plans as it sits metres from Ballantine whisky stores.A part retrospective planning application was lodged by 1798 Dumbuck Estates Ltd in April last year to partially demolish it and convert it into eight flatted dwellings, building four single-storey houses.

Plans are still pending West Dunbartonshire Council consideration.A HSE spokesman said: “We have advised West Dunbartonshire Council against the granting of planning permission.”Chivas Brothers, who distill Ballantine’s Scotch whisky, have also objected to the planning application ove their concerns about the luxury development. They said: “We were concerned about the proposed proximity of residential dwellings very close to our boundary and in line with HSE guidance, we advised West Dunbartonshire Council against the granting of planning permission for this proposed residential development.” Don't miss the latest news from around Scotland and beyond - Sign up to our daily newsletter here.
