Liverpool are upset with city mayor Joe Anderson calling for the Premier League season to be cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Anderson told BBC Sport that he believes no further games should be played this campaign as he fears potential breaches to social distancing rules when Liverpool eventually win the title.
Jurgen Klopp's Reds are just two victories away from clinching a first title in 30 years, and Anderson says policing subsequent celebrations could turn "farcical".
He did however add that Liverpool should be awarded with silverware to mark the club's achievement to this point. But the Anfield club have hit back in a statement, condemning the mayor's comments and revealing their "disappointment".
