‘SNL’ cast cheekily praises Trump in first post-election cold open: ‘We have been with you all along’
The cast of Saturday Night Live cheekily pledged their allegiance to President-elect Donald Trump and claimed they all voted for him in the first cold open since Tuesday’s historic election. The skit began with cast members solemnly discussing how Trump’s win over Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris would be “shocking” and “horrifying” for many of the liberal-leaning show’s viewers. They then said that Trump might seek “vengeance” against political opponents, leading long-time cast member Kenan Thompson to say, “We at SNL would like to say to Donald Trump, we have been with you all along.”“We have never wavered in our support of you, even when others doubted you,” Bowen Yang said sarcastically, followed by each of the main cast members talking about how much they love, and have always loved, the president-elect.“Weekend Update” anchor Colin Jost then said that fellow anchor Michael Che is the only person against Trump.“I hate how the lamestream media, Michael Che, has to spin it to make you look foolish,” he said.Dana Carvey – who previously appeared as President Joe Biden – showed up to the stage portraying Elon Musk.“Check it out dark MAGA,” Carvey said while jumping up and down.“But seriously, I run the country now.”Comedian Bill Burr hosted the late-night show and gave an opening comedy monologue in which he roasted both Harris and Trump.Burr, during his 15-minute long monologue, said he was “psyched” the election is over, leaning into Harris and former Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton for wearing pants suits during their failed political runs against Trump.“Ladies, enough with the pantsuits; it’s not working,” Burr said.“Stop trying to have respect for yourselves.
