Girls Aloud are releasing a new edition of their hit charity single I'll Stand By You to honour their late bandmate Sarah Harding.
Cheryl, Nadine Coyle, Kimberley Walsh and Nicola Roberts have issued the song to raise funds for BBC Children In Need. Called I'll Stand By You (Sarah's Version), the track features the late singer on lead vocals, after original recording sessions from 20 years ago were discovered earlier this year when the group went through archive material together.
Nadine introduced the song on BBC Radio 2 on Wednesday 6 November, saying: "It really is a special celebration of Sarah and also Girls Aloud involvement in Children In Need over the years." Sarah sadly passed away from breast cancer in September 2021, aged 39, after valiantly battling the disease.
Sarah's mother heartbreakingly announced her daughter's passing on Instagram, sharing: "It's with deep heartbreak that today I'm sharing the news that my beautiful daughter Sarah has sadly passed away." She continued to detail Sarah's courageous fight against the disease: "Many of you will know of Sarah's battle with cancer and that she fought so strongly from her diagnosis until her last day." Sarah bravely disclosed her diagnosis in August 2020, admitting she initially dismissed her symptoms as she was in "denial".
