A top GP has warned of the rise in norovirus cases as the 'Kawasaki bug' takes hold in the UK. According to AXA Health, cases of the vomiting bug have doubled on last year, with the variant accounting for 70% of cases.
First identified in Kawasaki, Japan, in 2014, the strain has quickly become the dominant version of norovirus in the UK in recent months.
Dr John Burke from AXA Health, who boasts more than 25 years of experience, has laid out six key symptoms to watch for with the virulent strain making waves this season.
Dr Burke said: "Norovirus is an extremely contagious virus that spreads through contact and can cause sickness and diarrhoea for those infected.
