PINE HILLS, Fla. – A man was found lying in the middle of an Orange County road died from gunshot wounds after the case was initially investigated as a fatal crash, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The man was discovered lying in the road around 4 a.m. Tuesday near Powers and Merriewood drives in Pine Hills. He was taken to a hospital where he died, troopers said.

The FHP said its investigation found that the man did not die as the result of a crash but from gunshot wounds. The Orange County Sheriff’s Office is now investigating, but no details about the shooting have been released.
