If you were looking forward to having a day off as usual on the first Monday of May, you’ll be disappointed. Traditions for May Day include actives such as dancing around a maypole, which are linked to pagan festivals and the celebration of spring.
For 2020 the May Day bank holiday has been moved to next Friday, May 8. The date change was announced in June 2019, which meant that as many as 30 million diaries and calendars were incorrectly printed.
The switch also caused chaos for many Brits who had already made holiday arrangements. But this was before the coronavirus pandemic and lockdown, which has ruined all such plans anyway.
