Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley has issued an apology in the face of criticism aimed at his Sports Direct company over their response to the coronavirus crisis.
Ashley was widely condemned - including by MPs - after he tried to claim the sports shop was an essential operator for keeping the national fit in a bid to keep his stores open against government advice.
But he soon performed a u-turn to close his stores - and he has now apologised for "ill-judged and poorly timed" emails to the government as they looked to deal with the crisis.
