A government minister has told Sports Direct owner Mike Ashley to 'back off', insisting there is 'no reason' for a store such as his to remain open following the Prime Minister's orders to the country amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Cabinet office minister Michael Gove spoke on Good Morning Britain after Boris Johnson said all non-essential shops must shut.

He said Sports Direct bosses should allow the thousands of employees to stay at home. Frasers Group, which includes Sports Direct and Evans Cycles, emailed employees 30 minutes after Boris Johnson announced all non-essential retailers must shut last night (Monday).
