Despite the region opening an additional shelter to help Durham’s homeless population, there are still many people living on the streets.
However, there is a facility where a number of organizations are working together to help those individuals during the coronavirus pandemic.
Back Door Mission, located behind the Simcoe Street United Church in Oshawa, provides a number of resources and services for homeless people.
Since the pandemic began, it has partnered with multiple social services agencies, including the Canadian Mental Health Association, Region of Durham Social Services and the John Howard Society, to create Mission United.
