Scientists may have discovered why obese people are more vulnerable to the coronavirus, according to research published in a new study.

Covid-19 latches onto ACE-2 receptors, which break down two forms of a protein to keep blood pressure stable. Fat cells also create the receptors, which can be found in people with type-2 diabetes.

Obesity is considered to be one of the biggest risk factors associated with severe coronavirus symptoms. A study conducted by the Coronavirus Clinical Characterisation Consortium found that almost 75% of coronavirus patients in intensive care are overweight.
