The UK's coronavirus death toll has jumped by 138 today as strict new lockdown measures are introduced to stem the second wave of the virus.
There have been 18,980 newly recorded cases over the previous 24 hours, slightly down from yesterday. Coronavirus deaths have been above 100 for the last three days underlining the growing threat from the virus.
The death toll in all settings now stands at 43,293. Hospitalisations were up sharply today with 792 new admissions and a total of 562 people on mechanical ventilation beds.
Separate figures published by the UK's statistics agencies show there have now been 58,500 deaths registered in the UK where Covid-19 was mentioned on the death certificate.
