A councillor has been hit with an 'onslaught' of racial abuse on social media after announcing plans to defy the government on schools.
Bury council's education boss Coun Tamoor Tariq spoke yesterday (Tuesday) on the BBC's Emma Barnett Show and on Talk Radio with host Julia Hartley-Brewer to explain the authority's decision not to reopen classrooms on June 1.
Following the interviews, he says he was abused on social media and via emails. Some people suggested he had only been elected to office because of his ethnicity, while others questioned his ability to do his job.
