NHS Ayrshire & Arran have told of the areas within Crosshouse Hospital where potentially dangerous concrete has been uncovered - as the body's chief executive responds to concerns. The at-risk-of-collapse building material, Reinforced Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (RAAC) planks, has been found at three main areas of the super-hospital as part of a probe across the entire Ayrshire health estate.

Now we can reveal that those sections of the hospital are in the single storey sections of Crosshouse, which includes the main entrance, the main boiler house, and the Lister Centre where the out of hours NHS (Ayrshire) Doctors on Call (ADOC) service is based.Clair Burden, Chief Executive for NHS Ayrshire & Arran, says RAAC has been on the health board's radar for some time.

In February, NHS Scotland issued an urgent Safety Action notice warning that RAAC plans are at risk of "catastrophic failure."But Ms Burden insists that a review into the RAAC at Crosshouse Hospital has shown "no significant deterioration," and insists the areas will remain "under surveillance." She said: “This goes back a while and been part of our building maintenance.

There are three areas (affected) - the main boiler house, the flat, single story piece at the front and the Lister building, which are admin places.“All the RACC has been reviewed for deterioration and we have no significant deterioration from those initial reviews.
